The primary cause of cystitis is a bacterial infection. The design of a woman’s urinary tract makes women more susceptible to these infections, and factors such as sexual activity or pregnancy can also increase the risk of developing cystitis.

It’s essential to treat cystitis effectively with UTI antibiotics or over-the-counter cystitis medication to prevent it from reoccurring. Those suffering from recurring cystitis can be due to the body’s inability to effectively fight off bacteria from entering the bladder. Some other factors that can cause recurring cystitis include:

  • Hormonal changes
  • Weakened immune system
  • Having sex
  • Being pregnant
  • Having diabetes

A short course of antibiotics is the most common form of treatment for cystitis, depending on the severity of the infection. Some of the most commonly prescribed antibiotics for cystitis include Trimethoprim 200mg tablets and Nitrofurantoin 100mg capsules.
